Faculty, Communication
Description
The communication faculty member will teach courses in the areas of media, social media, integrative marketing, public relations, human communication and related areas. Faculty must be able to advance the evangelical Christian mission of the institution.听 The faculty member will instruct and advise strategic communication majors and collaborate with other faculty in administering goals, program development, and program activities. 听Programs in the division include strategic communication, graphic design and digital media & cinema. Teaching load is 24 semester hours annually.
Responsibilities
- Provide support for strategic communication, graphic design, and digital media & cinema majors and general education core
- Teach up to eight (8) college level courses per year (24 semester hours) across the field of communication including courses in the areas of social media, media, public relations, integrative marketing and human communication.
- Advise students within the communication as needed
- Interact with prospective students as needed
- Endorse and model professional standards and proficiencies
- Serve on committees as assigned within the university
- Assist regularly with assessment of CIU鈥檚 communication curriculum
- Participate in faculty meetings at the college and university level; attend other appropriate events including chapel, conferences, and student events
- Yearly affirm the institution鈥檚 mission, doctrinal position, community standards, and CIU鈥檚 position on human origins (Faculty Guide)
Qualifications
- Experience teaching college communication courses preferred.
- Knowledge of the disciplines associated with communication, including pedagogy, information literacy, and research
- Ability to teach effectively at the college level
- Competency in utilizing learning management tools and classroom technology
- Competent in or able to learn and facilitate online education
- Ability to use technology effectively in teaching as appropriate听
- An understanding of the needs and trends associated with traditional college age students
- Commitment to CIU鈥檚 mission and vision
- Commitment to live within the standards of the CIU community
- Minimum master鈥檚 degree in communication from an accredited university; an earned doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in communication or closely related field is preferred.听
